Healing Through Storytelling (1) - Six Is The Number Of Men Season 1: Episode 9-When Absence is Strength [Responsible Citizens | Accountable Leadership]

This article is provided by SowL3T, a non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering meaning and promoting healing by integrating shared life experiences, research, and the Word of God. I invite you to use this story as an analogy to reflect on how you manage recurring patterns of hurt and disappointment in your own life. While this narrative may not be immediately relevant to every reader, it holds value as a shareable insight for anyone navigating comparable circumstances.

In this piece, I am delighted to share the final episode of Season 1 of the series, Six Is the Number of Men. The series chronicles the life of Mandy, a woman seeking love and stability who encounters numerous disappointments and heartbreaks on her journey. This ninth episode concludes Season 1 and summarises the core lessons derived from the previous episodes.

As the author, while reflecting on the epilogue for Season 1, I had a realis

ation that these personal experiences are universally common. We often face the same or similar challenges across all relational spheres. Whether in our careers, friendships, affiliations, or families, the specific situations may differ, but the emotional resonance remains consistent.

The Lure of External Validation

For some, the definition of contentment is purely external, linked to fulfilment derived from wealth, status, or recognition. Others find validation in being indispensable or in simply being surrounded by people. These external factors constitute a pervasive "noise" that loudly calls to us. We often heed this noise because it is visible, championed by the world, and used as the primary metric for success. However, we sometimes use this same external focus to suppress or ignore the genuine internal cry, which is known only to our souls and our heartbeats.

Our self-focus can lead us to overlook the need for safety and security for the vulnerable—those unable to advocate for themselves. We sometimes forget the greater purpose for which we exist on Earth; a purpose that transcends personal gain and is rooted in contributing to others, leaving behind a legacy of a better world and a better generation.

Season 1: Key Insights

  • Storms subside when we fully engage with our inner selves.

  • Destructive patterns persist until they are directly confronted.

  • Forgiveness is essential for personal liberation.

  • Maintaining one's peace is an individual responsibility not a selfish act.

  • Authentic growth frequently commences when we finally choose to disengage from what diminishes us.

Returning to the central lesson from Mandy's story: When a chapter is genuinely complete, attempting to sustain it is inauthentic. Such efforts may provide temporary comfort but cannot deliver true completeness, and they often lead to greater pain rather than benefit, a lesson Mandy learns in this episode.
